DIY Leaf Crayons
Julie Hildebrand
We had so much fun making homemade leaf crayons for our November box and were shocked at how quickly they came together! Here are the details on how to make your own. Items Needed: Silicone Leaf Mold (any shape works) Crayons in different shades of red, green, yellow, orange, and brown Directions: Begin by removing the wrapper from your crayons. Use an X-ACTO knife to cut a slit across the wrapper, and then remove it with your hands. Then, use a knife to cut your crayons into 0.5 - 1.0 inch pieces in length. If they pieces are too small, they will bleed together and not hold their individual colors. Combine a mixture of crayons in each leaf mold. Place the tray in the microwave and cook at 30 second intervals for up to 3 minutes until the crayons have melted. Do not cook for more than 3 minutes or the crayons will begin to change colors. If it looks like all of the pieces have not melted completely at the end of 3 minutes, they will continue to melt after being removed from the microwave. Allow the crayons to cool for at least 30 minutes before removing them from the silicone mold. The mold can be placed in the freezer to speed up the cooling process.
